How to be a hustler & Stop Doing What is Easy

Stop Doing What is Easy And Take Control Of Your Life

Over the years, I always wanted the moment to come where things weren’t as hard and I didn’t have as many problems.

I wanted to reach my full “happiness” like everybody else does.

Now I have realized, I was looking at life the wrong way.

I changed my perspective and now I understand that happiness isn’t just one moment in the future and life doesn’t get easier, you just get stronger.

I also realized I have greatness in me as does every other individual on this planet. It is how you choose to use your greatness that will yield the best results.

To create a new life for yourself requires patience, persistence and being resilient.

It’s never going to be easier.

Achievements and failures go hand in hand. Failing is just part of the process; a process that I think can be quite appreciated. One day you will look back and appreciate it so much more for the lessons it has taught you and the person it has allowed you to be.

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever.” – Steve Jobs

But it’s not all bad because I truly believe the life that is waiting for us is just as exciting as well as the moment we have now. This is why they say to enjoy the process because the process is what makes up your life. The process is what becomes your life. Follow that heart of yours and never give up because of a little bump along the road.

Being fearless is actually exhilarating. Believing in yourself is part of self-compassion and knowing you are worth so much more is exciting.

As a finance graduate, my mind tends to see my process as an investment process.

Such as, when you initially invest in a company and have to make improvements on it in order to yield higher returns, but you can get caught up wanting for the end results to happen. It is easy to start being impatient, but you have to wait it out. In the process, you can’t get discouraged when things don’t go the right way.

Small wins….

The end results are waiting for you as long as you do something each day to get one step closer. Michael Phelps didn’t have an overnight win. It was with the help of small wins everyday that got him where he is today. He pushed through his comfort zone, had the mind over matter attitude and celebrated his small wins.

It is crucial that each time you have a small win that you celebrate that win. This trains your brain into thinking it is doing something good, and that it wants you to do it again. And small accomplishments over time yield bigger results.

Keep doing things everyday, small or big, to achieve in becoming a better version of yourself.

You are an amazing person now, and can become even more astonishing each day you keep trying and you keep hustling your way into your dreams and goals.

Don’t forget, we are all waiting on you!

Grow each day….

If you cannot grow each day, you cannot become your best self that is possible for you. If you cannot be your best self, then you are belittling yourself of what is possible for you. You still have time. Never give up on yourself and your future. Don’t ever settle for a basic life. I truly believe we were born into this life with a purpose and we were born to succeed. Take inventory of yourself every day, write it down — what can you do differently? Find time to better yourself every day. I want you to leave this earth with a positive impact. I want you to know that because you were born, we are all blessed with your gifts.

I challenge all of you to keep fighting to find your purpose on this planet.

Something that is challenging, stimulating, fulfilling and inspiring.

I also challenge you to figure out your why. This will help you figure out your purpose. Your why should have your passion embedded in it. Your why should make you want it so bad that you HAVE to have it. It should make you emotional because if you don’t have or do this one thing, then you will forever feel incomplete.

This life truly is so beautiful and one of the best advice’s I have ever gotten is that we owe it to the other 95% who are less unfortunate than us living in the U.S. to become massively successful in order to be in power to help.

Now go take that walk like the champion I know you are. All things are possible and you are so loved.

As always, tweet or reach out on Instagram if you have taken your small step in finding out your why or purpose.

Self Love Meditation Practice & Benefits of Meditation

Self-care Series #2

“Take Control of Your Mind and Meditate”

Do you constantly forget to take care of yourself? I know it can be hard when you have a busy schedule or have children to take care of. I think sometimes being too busy is a sign that you don’t have enough self-love for yourself, and if you can’t love yourself, how can you truly love others with all of your heart? I want you to start treating yourself like the most intriguing and most amazing human being that you are. You, out of anyone, deserve your uttermost affection and love. Once you have all the love you can give to yourself, watch and see how that love multiplies onto others.

For this week’s self-care series, we are talking about meditation. Meditation is a way to connect with your most inner and truthful self. The part of you that actually cares and loves you. It is your center. The part of you that is always there when you need a moment. The most magical thing about meditation is that you can reap the benefits even with only a one minute practice. Moreover, a multitude of studies have suggested that mindfulness is a near-miracle cure for everything from anxiety and depression to heart disease.

Meditation and mindfulness go hand-in-hand. It’s crucial to stay mindful throughout the day, but it is just as important, maybe more, to take time away from everything and to center yourself with a 5, 10 or 20 minute meditation. I started with 10 minutes in the beginning. I used an app called HeadSpace, which was really good and gave me a good idea of how it all works.

I want you to know, just like anything else in this life, you need patience with meditation. You won’t be great your first time, and that is perfectly okay. You’ll still feel the difference and it may take you a while into building it into a habitual everyday routine. I also don’t want you to feel constrained to having to do it every morning, or blaming your bad days because you didn’t meditate that day. It shouldn’t feel like a punishment, but rather a more peaceful moment to yourself.

In the rush of modern life, we tend to lose touch of each moment and have become totally unconnected to this world in so many ways. It’s become so easy to not even look at the people you see most, like your parents, in the face and not even notice their features — like their eye color or the face expressions they make. We are in auto-pilot mode more so than ever. Technology has our heads down looking at our phones all day or staring blankly at screens, which tend to take us away from our precious time of enjoying each moment as a beautiful miracle. Mindfulness along with meditation is one of the key ways to have more peace on this earth and it is truly life changing – I can attest to that.

Meditation IS NOT about:

  • Fixing you
  • Escaping reality
  • Stopping negative thoughts
  • Being part of a religion

Rather, meditation is a way to:

  • Reduce everyday stress of life
  • Train and rewire your brain
  • Strengthening neural connections
  • Connect better with others
  • Reduce the chattering voices in your head
  • Focus on your mind
  • Understand your pain/yourself
  • Bring calmness to your everyday
  • Combat whatever your day may bring
  • Increase your concentration skills

There’s a growing research showing that when you train your brain to be more mindful, you’re actually remodeling the physical structure of your brain. We’re constantly on autopilot everyday and our brains wonder/not pay attention around 40% of the time. That is a big chunk of our time that is being wasted.

Self Love Meditation Practice:

So this week I challenge you to meditate with me for 10 minutes or more! I am aiming for 20 minutes, which is something I’ve never done. No pressure to do the maximum amount. Like I’ve said, meditation takes time to get better and to understand. I am going to set my timer to 20 minutes and listen to this background music, while I focus on my body, breathing, and surrounding noises.

The way I start is, I gently sit upright on a chair, sofa or bed. Then I softly close my eyes and start to focus on my breathing. Now the breathing part isn’t the whole idea of meditation, it is just a good place to focus and find your inner core, due to the movement and the gentleness of it. While I am centering my mind and focus on my breathing, I will start to focus on any outside noise. Maybe there are some birds chirping, or the noise of the cars passing by. If any other thoughts come to mind, which naturally, they will, I will gently let them pass and refocus on breathing and my practice. Next, I will scan my body starting from my toes and scan my whole body, being aware of any sensations, such as warmness, any tingles or sharpness. I will do this until I reach my head. I will then go to a place where I find happiness and am able to relax. This place is somewhere with a lot of sunshine for me, personally — could be different for everyone. There, I will look at myself (so at this point, there are two of me), and give myself some type of a loving gesture. It could be a hug, or a saying, or whatever feels right at the moment. Once, I am content and have experienced everything in my “happy” place, I will go back to the practice of scanning my body. Once I’ve gone through feeling any sensations from my head to toes, I will move to noticing any outside noise, and when I feel ready, I can finally open my eyes. This meditation, I usually only do for 10 minutes, but it will be interesting to extend it and also to do it with the background music.

You can either do the meditation I suggested above, which is for self love, or you can download apps like; Headspace, Simple Habit, Insight Timer, Stop Breath and Think or My Headspace.

Let me know if you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer anything you’re unsure of! And let me know if you try this meditation practice with the hashtag #MemoallureSelfCareChallange!

Thank you for reading and see you next week for series #3 🙂

Top 5 All-Time Favorite Nude Lipsticks

Today we are talking all about nudes – shades of lipstick that is!

I don’t think I can leave the house without putting on one of these. I love how it transforms any dull look into looking like you actually took some time to do your makeup.

I’ll be honest though, I don’t like wearing a lot of makeup for work. Mainly because it’s not worth it, but also because I like giving my skin a chance to breath. I say that “it’s not worth it” because who are we really trying to impress at work? Really, I don’t understand office politics, so I like to be a rebel and not wear makeup because I am beautiful with or without it. 🙂

Although I don’t wear makeup, I do make sure I put on one of these lipsticks to give me some color to my face. It also looks very natural and down-to-earth. Nudes are my favorite shades because it’s so easy to wear everyday.

Too bad we can’t all be Rihanna and wear crazy lipsticks all the time. Wait, actually, no that goes against everything I believe. YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU PLEASE. Do whatever makes your little heart happy and makes you feel the most confident. Taking care of yourself and making sure you look your best everyday is part of a self-love and self-care routine. When you look your best, you feel the most confident and can accomplish so much more. That saying “Fake it ‘till you make it” usually works when you feel and look your best; which the meaning can differ for everyone!

Okay, I’ll stop rambling. Here are my top 5 nudes with swatches:

1. Faux – MAC

IMG_1151

This is such a nice mauve tone and looks amazing on a lot of skin tones. I wear this one when I’m running late, and know I can depend on it looking good no matter what. This is my ride or die lipstick. If you think MAC lipsticks are a bit expensive, I would say that they are worth it because they last forever and are such great quality.

2) Cherish – MAC

IMG_1153

I go back and forth with this one and Faux. They’re both my constant go-to everyday lipsticks. They just never fail me. They’re both such beautiful colors. I love this one because it’s a little more wearable than a mauve tone. It’s not too nude, just the perfect shade for everyday wear. No matter what type of eye makeup I’m wearing or not wearing, it looks great. It’s a nice neutral nude.

3) Raquel – Nars

IMG_1155

I love the formula in this. It’s applies so smoothly and is very moisturizing. This collection is so amazing, you can’t go wrong with any shades from Nars, but this one in particular is such a unique color and a great nude. It has a more of an orange undertone, but it’s beautiful. I wear this when I want to spice up my nude lip look.

4) Lip Tensity Driftwood – MAC

IMG_1154

This one’s another nice mauve color. I like how this one feels and is a bit more moisturizing. This is a newer one from their collection. I think it came out this past winter. It’s more of a darker mauve than Faux – which gives you a different variety.

5) Naked 2 – Urban Decay

IMG_1152

This is a nudey-nude. What I mean by that is that this is a pale nude. Looks great for when you have smokey eyes or wearing heavier makeup on your eyes. This one’s also very moisturizing which is a plus.

Okay that is all. This was pretty hard to only choose only 5, but at the end of the day, these are the 5 I wear the most often. I didn’t list my current favorite, which is the MUFE I mentioned in my previous post, which you can check out here.

Happy Friday, everyone! Hope everyone has a nice weekend. Don’t forget to come back Sunday for Self-Care Series # 2!

Chia Seed Pudding 3 Ways

IMG_1120

Guys, we’re talking all about ch-ch-ch-chia seeds today! I’ve explained all the health benefits of chia seeds in my previous blog post, which you can check out here if you haven’t read it yet. These amazing super foods are so easy to incorporate into your daily routine in so many unique and different ways. I think one of the best ways to enjoy them is making them into a pudding form. It’s especially great, since here in Boston the weather is getting nicer and it’s nice to enjoy a nice cold healthy treat like this. It is easy to make and very delicious. Best part? They are healthy and provide many nutrients for your beautiful body 🙂 You can have them for breakfast, dessert or as a snack!

If you didn’t know this already, chia seeds form a paste once mixed in with liquid. The best way to ensure it’s the right consistency is to leave it in the fridge overnight. The traditional chia pudding would usually be milk of your choice, chia seeds and some type of sweetener, but I’ve made these a little more interesting for you, and you can pick the one that you crave the most 🙂

Kiwi and Coconut Chia Pudding:

IMG_1121

Kiwi and Coconut Chia Seed Pudding

  • Servings: 2
  • Difficulty: easy

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup of chia seeds
  • 1 cup of coconut or almond milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Fresh rasperries
  • 2 Kiwi
  • Coconut shreds

In a jar or bowl, mix in milk, chia seeds, vanilla extract and sweetener of choice. Refrigerate overnight. Next, in a blender, blend two kiwis until its a thick consistency. Start layering! Kiwi and coconut will be in the middle. Top with fresh raspberries and coconut!

Okay, guys I think I just cured your chocolate addiction with a healthier, good-for-your-body option. If you give any of these a try, make it be this one! It tastes like chocolate ice cream and Reese’s cups combined. Probably sounds weird, but it tastes amazing!! Great as a dessert option. I made this one with 2 tbsp of sweetener instead of 1/4 cup (which is a little less), and still can’t believe how great it tasted!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Chia Pudding:

IMG_1119

Chocolate Banana Chia Pudding

  • Servings: 2
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Print

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • ¼ cup chia seeds
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp honey or sweetener of choice
  • 2 tbsp Peanut butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp cacao powder
  • Banana Pieces
  • Sliced almonds

In a jar or bowl, mix in milk, chia seeds, vanilla extract and sweetener of choice, cacao powder and peanut butter. Refrigerate overnight. Top with bananas and sliced almonds!

Acai Chia Pudding:

Acai Chia Pudding

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • ¼ cup chia seeds
  • ¼ cup or less of maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp acai powder
  • 1 frozen banana
  • Frozen blueberries
  • Toppings: blueberries and walnuts

In a jar or bowl, mix in milk, chia seeds, vanilla extract and sweetener of choice. Refrigerate overnight. Next, in a blender, blend frozen banana, blueberries, acai powder and a little milk for consistency. Start layering! Acai will be in the middle. Top with fresh blueberries and walnuts!

I honestly don’t think you could go wrong with any of these options – just depends on what you’re in the mood for! I’ve made it easy for you guys, so if needed you can print out the recipes. Let me know if you try any of these options on twitter or Instagram!

Thank you for reading and I hope I’ve made your day even sweeter 🙂

Life is too short

How to Take Action for Success

One of the best ways to start your day, or to start off your week in a good note is to listen to some of the best motivational speeches from the most inspiring, successful speakers.

I have incorporated these into my daily routine for many years now and I truly believe it has trained my brain into always pushing myself out of my comfort zone, to always go after what I believe in/ want, to never make excuses for my own actions and to never blame my circumstances for my misfortunes.

I think we all need daily reminders to take chances, that it is okay to make mistakes and to always get back up when things have not gone the way you want them to be. It is discouraging to not be where you want to be, but never stay at that state of mind, always keep moving forward and most importantly ENJOY the process. Nobody can guarantee your success or your path, only you have the power.

Success can have so many different meanings for so many different people. I think that’s the beauty of it – we all have different things to offer to this world. Don’t worry about the competition or what others are doing – you and the person next to you didn’t come on this earth to accomplish the same things. You have a different gift than the person next to you.

You are truly a miracle and have so much to offer. If that doesn’t encourage you, then think of it scientifically; your DNA is the most unique out of billions out there! You are extraordinary and are meant to be here. You have something to give back to this world, and if you don’t take action today, then who knows what we all miss out on and could have gotten from your gifts. Your potential is so much greater than you think. What’s the prize? I think human beings are naturally driven and meant for success. We are not meant to lay around and do nothing, we are meant to take action and create opportunities.

Your future self is counting on you and I am rooting for you!

Some of my favorite speakers are Jim Rohn, Les Brown, Zig Ziglar, Wayne Dyer and Tony Robbins.

If you haven’t watched Tony Robbins’ movie “I am Not Your Guru” on Netflix, I would highly suggest that you consider it. It is amazing and puts into perspective of how so many people struggle with so many different things and that you should always be grateful. Warning: keep tissues handy.

Thank you for reading!  Here’s another video, if you are feeling up to it

How to Unwind, Recharge and Increase Productivity

Living the “American Dream” usually means you live a busy, on the go lifestyle.

You tend to eat your breakfast on the go or out,  and work more hours than most European countries. You are always running around doing things and trying to stay productive.

It is important to realize that as a self-care routine, we must break this habit and recharge from time to time. Your iPhone or Laptop won’t work unless you recharge it and you certainly are no different.

Most of us are living a 9-5 (or more) type of job and rarely take any breaks in between. While it is crucial to take action of your life and keep going after what you want, it is also important to take regular breaks and unwind. You need balance in all parts of your life to live out your best self. It takes time to figure out the right balance for your own individual need, but if you keep taking small steps each day you will get there.

Taking regular breaks and getting present of the moment can help us:

  • Think more clearly
  • Clear our minds
  • Feel happier and more at peace
  • Be more productive and have more energy
  • Keep your blood flowing by taking a walk

It has been proven that human bodies were not meant to sit for eight hours straight and breaking your day by taking multiple breaks can increase your productivity. This doesn’t only apply to desk jobs, you could implement this with whatever type of work you need to accomplish.

So how do you take breaks?

17 Minute break:

There’s a study that suggests we take a 17 minute break after working 52 minutes. Seems like a lot of time off, but in reality this helps you crunch and use your time working more diligently. The break helps you refocus and recharge. You could take a walk outside, do little exercises at work, talk to coworkers on non-work related stuff, or if you do have to look at the computer perhaps you could look at funny pictures of animals – which has been proven with research that it increases your productivity.

Exercise:

One of the most effective ways to take a break is to take an exercise class or go to the gym during your lunch break. This, not only breaks up your day, but it allows you to be somewhat active for those of us working a 9-5 style type of job. It allows you to think clearly as you’ve taken some time off to yourself and to feel refreshed.

As much as you want to accomplish your goals and hustle, a human body cannot function working 100% every hour of the day. Think of concentration as a muscle and how you would treat each muscle going to the gym. You cannot work the same muscle for an extended amount of time and need to take breaks in between training each day. If 17 minutes is not feasible with your work, consider taking 5-10 min breaks to see the effects.

Stop looking at your phone:

Another interesting thing to note is that most of us check our phones first thing in the morning, then listen to music on our phones/ look at our phones on our commute to work, then we get to work and stare at a screen for 8+ hours, then head come with our phones on our hand then look at our laptop or watch Netflix and do it all over again the next day. To break this vicious cycle, I think it is important to be more mindful and take short breaks everyday. Look around you and your surroundings, talk to strangers, look at the clouds more often, journal, meditate, and most importantly take care of yourself more often.

This weekend take a moment to take care of you.

Thanks for reading. 🙂

xoxo, Ozzy

Immunity Shot For Clear Skin

Immunity Shot for Clear SkinAs I’m getting older, I am more into taking shots that are good for my health vs vice versa!

I like to get my day started with a shot of lemon, turmeric and ginger. It gives me a burst of natural energy and helps tremendously with the health of my skin.

In a blender, I mix about an inch of ginger, turmeric and one whole lemon. Yes, I know sounds intense and a little unappetizing, but the benefits are worth it. Right before I take the shot, I also sprinkle in a little pepper because science says turmerics benefits are not fully absorbed by our bodies unless taken with pepper. I like to leave the skin on the turmeric and ginger, but feel free to peel it off.

Turmeric:

Golden colored, strong flavored spice and an ancient food. Yes, this is the spice that gives curry its yellow color. Turmeric is known to be a strong antioxidant and has powerful anti-inflammatory effects. Turmeric contains medicinal properties which include curcumin – although, it is not greatly absorbed into the bloodstream. This is where black pepper comes into place. Black pepper contains piperine, which is a natural enhancer of curcumin by 2000%. Research also has shown that turmeric can help cancer and possibly even help prevent cancerous cells. Some other benefits include: helping prevent Alzheimer’s, prevent brain diseases, lower risk of heart disease, prevention against depression and age-related chronic diseases.

You might ask why care about anti-inflammation? Well, inflammation is super important in that it helps our bodies kill harmful bacteria and helps repair any damage. One of the main reasons antioxidants are important for our bodies is that it can prevent free radicals. I suggest you get the actual root of Turmeric instead of the ground form as the latter does not have all the benefits due to processing.

Ginger:

Ginger is one of the healthiest spices. I can always count on ginger tea when I feel bloated and it has so many other amazing benefits. This spice is originally from Asia and has been used for medicinal reasons for over 2,000 years! It’s been known to benefit your brain and body.

This miracle spice helps fight off cancer according to research. The component that is found in raw ginger, 6-gingerol, has anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor benefits. Research also has shown that ginger can help with Alzheimer’s disease by decreasing the amount of loss of brain cells. Other benefits of ginger are it is good for digestion, relives heartburn and gas, aids weight loss, helps manage blood sugar levels. boosts nutrient absorption, clears sinuses… The list can go on forever!

Lemon:

I’m sure many of us know how great lemons are. If you’re not into intense shots like this one, you could also drink warm water with lemon in the morning to detoxify, help digestion and improve your skin.

Lemons are high in vitamin C, fiber and plant compounds. One lemon provides about 31 mg of vitamin C which is 51% of your dietary needs! The fiber and plant compounds in lemons could also lower your risk for heart disease. The plant chemicals found in lemons, hesperidin and diosmin, have been shown to lower cholesterol. Other benefits include: prevent kidney stones, protect against anemia and reduce cancer risk.

So in conclusion, that’s my explanation to my madness. I highly recommend you give it a try! You can usually find Ginger at any grocery store, but turmeric might be a little harder to locate. The only place I have found it is at Whole Foods so far. Or you can always just make it easy on yourself and buy it on Amazon!

Let me know if you give this immunity shot a try either on Twitter or Instagram! Would love to know your reaction!
