Amazing Benefits of Gratitude

Self-Care Series #3
Can you guys believe it’s already been three weeks since we first started this challenge?! Time flies when you’re having fun 🙂 But in all seriousness, I hope you got a chance to be part of this self-care challenge and didn’t get caught up in the “too busy” mantra of life. If you’re too busy then you are just too busy to actually live out this life. No worries, if you weren’t in the right mindset, you can still be part of this challenge, if you wish. Maybe you can do all of the series compiled together into this weeks. You can read number 1 here and number 2 here. I bet you’d feel pretty amazing after taking care of yourself fully like that. If you are just joining us, welcome, I am so happy that you are here 🙂
For this week, I challenge you to write 5 things that you are grateful for.
Here are my 5 to give you an idea and get you started:
- Grateful for my nephew and niece – cutest little munchkins bring so much joy to my life
- Grateful to be healthy and to be living in one of the most amazing countries full of opportunities
- Grateful for my sister who has the kindest heart a human being could possibly have
- Grateful for being safe and sound in a warm home
- Grateful for having a boyfriend who is so loving and kind hearted and a group of friends I’ve known for so long.
Being grateful trains your mind into thinking you already have everything you need in this life — which stops you from wishing you were already some place else. It allows you to appreciate the present moment, which is the most important moment in your life.
It forces your mind into being happy. By being grateful, you force yourself to be more positive, feel more alive, express more compassion and kindness and increase your well-being over all.
Here are some ways how gratitude can benefit you:
- Improves psychological health — reduces toxic emotions
- Improves physical health such as aches and pains
- Help you sleep better
- Improves self-esteem and stops you from comparing yourself to others
- Better immune system
- Increase life satisfaction
- Solution to anger and fear according to Tony Robbins
Something that I’ve been trying to also incorporate into my weekly routine is thinking of highlights of my week. Things that made me the happiest, letting them sink in for a while, and being grateful for them.
Too often, we let the negative thoughts cloud over us and we forget to let the sunshine in. We forget to make the little good things be more predominant in our brain. Negative thoughts will come and go, let them. One of the best ways to look at negative thoughts is like the weather. There are cloudy days and some days, those dark clouds take too much of your brain, but that is okay, because underneath it all is the sun! Let the thoughts come and go, just like the clouds come and go. Nothing is temporary and that in itself is beautiful. There’s always a day to be grateful for and another moment awaiting for you to be thankful for!
If you are feeling extra inspired and want to feel the benefits of gratitude even more, you may also write a letter to someone who has brought so much joy into your world. Or it may be that they showed a small sign of kindness, and because of their small gesture, you have gained so much insight on who you are as a person. Anything that makes you feel grateful for that person’s existence, write it down and mail them an actual letter (no, not an email!), and send it their way 🙂 Nice little gesture and you both get to benefit!
Thank you for reading and I am grateful you are here 🙂 I hope you can come back next week for series #4! If you try anything from this challenge, don’t forget to reach out with the hashtag #MemoSelfCareChallenge on any social media.
Have an amazing day, you beautiful souls 🙂
xx, Ozzy

[…] I’m coming at you with another recipe today! I know I’ve been MIA the past 2 days which is due to technical difficulties with my laptop, unfortunately. In terms of the self-care challenge — it will be moved to next Sunday, which gives you more time to practice last week’s gratitude exercise. […]
