Is Opposite of Happiness Boredom?

Content is to discontent.

Love is the opposite side of the coin to hate.

Compassion is the opposite of indifference.

But is happiness really the opposite of sadness?

In my view, no. I think the thing that really makes a soul unhappy is boredom. Boredom of doing the same thing everyday, which brings to mind the quote “Insanity is doing the same thing everyday and expecting different results.” – Albert Einstein

I am writing this post with some insight from this past weekend. As some of you may know, I got my wisdom teeth out this past weekend. I really could not do anything all weekend. I was bed ridden all weekend including Monday. All I did was watch T.V., eat ice cream and hang out with my boyfriend. I know it might sound somewhat relaxing and nice — but it wasn’t.

“You never want to regret life due to laziness.”

It allowed me to be lazy. I woke up Tuesday morning not having motivation to do anything and all I wanted to do was stay in my bed and watch makeup tutorials all day and probably eat more ice cream.

I was bored all weekend. And I really couldn’t do anything about it due to my circumstance. I wasn’t taking my life by the horns. I was unlively. I was bored and had no motivation to do anything with my life…. Really, I was comfortable. 

Interesting fact I found out recently is that the word boredom wasn’t really used often until the 18th century. No one really knows for sure, but it may be due to the fact that around this time is when real entertainment started to begin and modern novels were becoming big. People started comparing their happiness to the adventure, romance and glamour they could experience through entertainment.

The insight that this brought in today’s world is; politicians need to be entertaining in order to have an audience, we listen to our headphones to entertain us from our commute, and we watch T.V. to alleviate our boredom. But why?

Boredom = Unhappiness.

Politicians need to keep us entertained to keep up with us easily getting bored. We get bored of doing one thing so quickly. You may even have gotten bored reading this at this point. Comment below if you lasted this long!

It’s easier for us to get bored more than ever now. We have so many “entertaining” devices nowadays. We have Netflix, Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, video games… the list goes on. These keep us entertained for some time, but it’s like a stimulant – it expires at some point.

We try to stay “happy” by using these stimulants — but for how long and at what cost? I just don’t really believe these entertainment resources are our answers. I think improving ourselves each day and doing things outside of what we normally do is what will alleviate boredom.

What I am trying to say is last weekend I was very unmotivated. I was bored and yet I had no motivation to do anything. I never want to feel like that again. It’s easy to not do anything, to go through life without any aspiration or beliefs. And it is so easy to just sit around eat ice cream and lay around watching T.V. all day. What is not easy is to go after the things you want. To have the courage to know what you want and to go full speed trying to reach your goals. It’s not easy trying to figure out your process or trying to figure out what you really want and your purpose, but each day that you try is another step forward.

Wake Up With a Purpose:

One way to make sure your life is inspiring and full of purpose is to have something you want to wake up for. For me, that is the gym. By going to the gym, I find my inner and outer strength. I get to push all of my limits that my head is so easily trying to convince me I can’t. I have a sick obsession of trying to prove my head wrong.

Find out what is your motivator to wake up each day with a purpose. That could be reading, learning something new, painting, taking pictures, meditating — whatever it is that you enjoy doing, do that.

It’s not easy to wake up and go push yourself out of your limits, but it will always be worth it. We’re not meant to be lazy and uninspiring living creatures. We are meant to inspire and create. I truly and strongly believe we all have a purpose, although, you will never know your purpose if you lay around doing nothing.

You are human, yes you will be attacked and be a victim of boredom, but never stay there for too long. In fact, never stay at one state of mind for too long, unless that is happiness.

Anastasia Beverly Hills matte lipstick review

New Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipsticks Review

Today’s review is on the new matte lipsticks by Anastasia Beverly Hills. I think they did a great job with their liquid lipsticks with an amazing formula. In my opinion, the liquid lipsticks are better than any other ones out there, but these new matte lipsticks were pretty disappointing.

I originally did not want to do this review after finding out how much I did not like these lipsticks, but quickly found out that there is not many reviews out there and I need to help a girl out! I checked YouTube and the only reviews on it really were the people who got it as a PR package with all the 30 shades. None of them seemed to say anything negative about it, which perhaps because it was free for them and they did not want to ruin the partnership.

Since there are not many reviews on it, I wanted to save anyone the trouble of buying these without knowing what to expect. Obviously after you read my review, you are entitled to your own opinion and if you really want to try them then you do you, girl!

I bought 9 of them myself and I plan on returning every single shade. I originally thought maybe I will keep the nudes, since they are more everyday colors, but I just couldn’t get past the texture and the formula.

ABH matte lipsticks review

Don’t get me wrong, these colors are beautiful. I really did want to like them and I was super excited when they arrived at my house. But I can’t get passed the dryness. They are CRAZY, unmanageable amounts of matte.  It was so hard to apply on my lips. I really had to use my muscles…TO PUT ON A LIPSTICK. They make your lips look extra dry as well. The one thing that really did it for me and made me not want to keep them is the inner part of your lip would not get any color on it no matter what. Usually the inner part of your lips is more wet and hard to apply lip color there, but these would not show any color at all. I am okay with applying the lipstick and then the color slowly fading, but it wouldn’t even apply in the first place!

ABH matte lipstick review

You can see from my swatches that they were really hard to apply! You can also see how broken these are. I think there are so many better products and brands out there that you can replicate the same colors with if you really liked a particular shade from this line. I don’t think these are worth your money.

Don’t get me wrong, I think ABH products are amazing, but I am starting to think they are a hit or miss type of brand. Again, just my opinion on it. Or maybe I am just not having any luck with it.

These tips are not only to be your strongest self, but they are also tips to aid you in being your truest self. I know you are the most bad-ass lady out there already and I hope you keep fighting to be the best version that’s within you everyday!

Here are my tips for how to be a #GirlBoss, how to be more productive, to feel more confident, improve your day and kick butt in every aspect of your life:

  1. Establish your morning and night routine. Write it down. Be as detailed as possible. To have the “perfect” (as perfect as you can have) morning routine, I suggest you wake up an hour before you normally would.
  2. Go to the gym because you LOVE your body, and not because you want it to look a certain way. Your body is your home. Treat it with respect, treat it kindly, and treat it with attention and love it deserves!
  3. Walk with your head up, shoulders back and whenever you get a chance, walk like the path is your runway. I know this sounds a bit much — but it really increases your confidence. While you’re at it, have a pep talk to yourself in your head. I usually say things like: “Today’s going to be an amazing day”, “I am so fortunate to have all the things I have”, “I am so happy and positive today” or “You are a bad-ass”. I know these sound a bit over the top, but it’s what your brain needs to hear! And you know what, it’s true!! You are the most amazing, strongest, kind hearted coolest person I know. OWN IT, girl 🙂
  4. Don’t be afraid to show your success, your intelligence and the whole package to anyone you meet. Don’t ever hide back your true self, you never know who will fall in love with it!
  5. Cut toxic people out of your life. You deserve happiness, you deserve flowers and you deserve peace. Don’t make excuses and take charge of your life because there is so many wonderful things to see, so much to experience and so many reasons to always feel your best. Don’t let toxic people stray you away from your inner peace.
  6. Choose to say NO. It gives you more confidence and shows your soul that you care about yourself and that you care enough to choose what’s best for you.
  7. Write out a 5-year and a 10-year plan. Next to that list, write down EVERYTHING you’ve ever wanted. Anything from the car you want to own to the house you want to maybe the puppy you always wanted. Let the list be as long or as little as you want and let that list be your motivation to keep going to reach your goals! Writing this list could also aid you in finding your passion 🙂
  8. Take yo vitamins, GIRL! Keep that body of yours healthy and glowing! While you’re at it, drink that green juice 🙂
  9. Read a book every single day. Read a self-help book because if you can take care of you, then you can take care of the world! Be a #WonderWoman because we all can use a little bit of help 😊 Here’s a list of some of the books I love!
  10. Try to be a minimalist. You’ll have a clearer mind and a healthier mindset. Take the first step by going through your closet and getting rid of anything that you haven’t worn over 3 months or anything that does not serve you well anymore. It frees your mind, your closet and helps people who might actually need the clothes you’ve been hogging!

Wake up early quote

8 Things I Do Before 8 A.M.

Rise and shine! Did you know early rising is a common trait found in many CEOs? That’s right, Marget Thatcher used to be up everyday at 5 a.m., Frank Lyod Wright at 4 a.m., Roger Iger (CEO of Disney) at 4:30 a.m., and my favorite lady Michelle Obama wakes up at 4:30 a.m. Here’s a full list of others, if you are interested.

Maybe being a CEO isn’t necessarily your thing, but it is important to have a morning routine for a calmer day to tackle on whatever comes your way. It’s necessary to take the lead on the day instead of having the day take a hold on you. Too often we wake up rushed and speed through our morning before work which then leads us to not be able to handle stressors of everyday living or stressful situations at work.

Ever since I incorporated a morning routine into my lifestyle, I’ve seen a HUGE change of how I react to events, my mood, anxiety level, productivity, and overall how I feel throughout the day. I feel more accomplished and a lot more positive. Life is also a lot more enjoyable. I know what you’re probably thinking at this point: “How can life be more enjoyable if I don’t get to sleep in?”, and I get it, sleeping is nice, but waking up and accomplishing things you said you always wanted to do is even nicer.

Life is more enjoyable because by waking up a little earlier than you normally would, you have more time to actually LIVE out this life instead of sleeping through it. You get to take care of YOU. Life is also more enjoyable because in that moment everything is quiet and peaceful and even if work ends up being stressful, you have this one thing, this one moment you can hold onto for the rest of the day to feel positive.

Here are 8 things I like to do before 8 a.m.:

  1. Drink water

I sometimes like to keep water by my bedside to drink right when I wake up to get energized. Water naturally gives us more energy so this really helps if you are struggling to get out of bed. Apart from that, we have been sleeping for about 8 hours, give or take, and our bodies are very dehydrated at this point. It’s important even if you don’t drink a lot, to replenish with water first thing in the morning.

2. Meditate

I move on to meditation quickly after because I like doing it right when I wake up as I feel more at peace with the rest of my morning routine. I will usually only meditate for about 5-10 minutes using an app — I am currently using Insight timer. I’ve explained all the benefits of it here, if you want to know more about it. I find meditation has really been able to calm my thoughts, aid with how I react to things, and has helped me deal with the daily stressors of life.

3. Visualize

I do this right after meditation as it’s an easy transition. There are many videos on YouTube that you can watch to see how to do it properly, but the way I do it is I close my eyes and picture an event and a place in my head. I describe exactly how it’s happening and put into detail of everything I’m wearing to what I’m holding in my hand. The benefits of visualization are enormous as well. Just do any research on it, and you will find out.

4. Journal

This one is such an important step for me. This really lets me start the day on a positive note. Whether that is because I am planning ahead – which alleviates stress or if it’s because I am dumping all of my thoughts into paper hence letting my thoughts free. It really clears my head and allows me to be whole. This one is so simple: you just have to start writing about whatever comes to your mind and keep going.

5. Gratitude

This one is right after journaling because I write on the same journal. I like to write 3-5 things I am grateful for each day. It might be small and silly, but it really adds up overtime. You start having a more grateful heart and the results are once again enormous.

6. Read

I like to read either the WSJ or a book or the Bible for a couple minutes each morning. I don’t read for too long as I know I will do some of the reading on my commute. I think this is important because it’s important to be a constant learner.

7. Exercise

My favorite part. I have been doing my exercises in my house lately with a video from YouTube, but if I don’t then I will head to the gym at this point. It might be the gym near my house or a class near my work. I will try to get in a workout anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour.

8. Eat Breakfast

This has been a lifesaver for me. I used to occasionally skip out on breakfast and I noticed each time I would feel so hungry by the end of the night and nothing I ate was filling me up. It’s because my body wanted to compensate for the calories I missed out on and overall my body was out of balance. I also noticed I would crave more sugar by the end of the night. Once I started eating breakfast more regularly, I noticed that I wouldn’t eat big dinners and dessert was kept to a minimum (this girl always needs dessert after dinner 🙂 ).

That’s usually what I do each morning. There will be days when I miss exercising but I compensate by taking a walk at lunch time. It’s really all about listening to your body and what it’s telling you it needs. If you need help waking up, read my post here.

I really enjoy waking up early also because it allows me to feel that my life isn’t taken by my job only and that I get to have time to myself to enjoy the things that make me feel at peace and calm. If you can wake up early and go to work early to get out early then do that. Whatever helps you have more time to do the things you love, do that! Don’t let work take all of your time!
