March Beauty Favorites

Believe it or not, March is coming to an end! How interesting is time. Some days, it can feel like it’s dragging, but when looking at the big picture, it always seems like it flies by!

This month, I don’t necessarily have anything new that I’ve bought to make it in my favorites list because I gave up buying makeup for lent (I know, crazy!!). Only one more week, and I can buy makeup again! But honestly, it’s been refreshing to not buy into my addiction. I can really rationalize it better now that I haven’t bought anything.

All of the items are things I’ve gravitated towards this month and have been loving. Some of them have become my holy-grail products and I know I will keep wearing them more in the coming months.

I’m pretty excited for April, I’m hoping for warmer days in Boston, which means more outdoor activities. 🙂 What are you guys excited for April?

CoverFx Custom Enhancer Drops in Moonlight

I’ve been using this under my foundations and it gives the most subtle, but beautiful glow. You may not like this if you have oily skin, but it gives you the most dewey skin. I love it because no matter what my skin always ends up looking dry after a few hours, and this one held up on me and made my skin look amazing. I haven’t tried it as a highlighter, but I’m sure it would work for that too. This was my first CoverFX product I’ve ever tried, and so far so good. I’m curious to try their other products. I’ve heard nothing but good things about them, so I’m sure they’ll be good purchses.

Collagen Eye Patch

I bought these on Amazon and I’ve been loving them. They seem to really work well on me, and I believe they were only $11 for a big package of them. They are made in Korea, so I can’t quite understand the ingredients, but I’ve had such good results with Korean skin-care that I was able to trust this one as well. Anything with Colagen will be helpful in preventive aging, if that’s your jam.

Hourglass Veil Primer

This was love at first application. I love how this makes my skin feel. I was initially scared because I’ve heard that it’s to control oily skin, which I don’t really have, so I thought this would work terribly on me. Quite the opposite, this works beautifully and I can’t wait to purchase more from this brand. This is actually also the first product I’ve tried form this brand, and again I am impressed. I love how this makes your skin feel and it’s not greasy or heavy. This will for sure become my go-to for many more months.

Deborah Lippman gel lab pro in Sweet Emotion

This was the first time I tried this brand (again!), and I am so impressed. This is the only nail polish you need in your life. This is meant to replicate a gel manicure, except you can take it off easily. It really does look like you got a gel manicure and lasts a little longer than a regular manicure. I love this because it saves you money in the long run, although this is a little more pricey than regular nail polish.

Tarte Fake Awake Eye Liner

I love wearing this day-to-day for any look. It opens up your eyes and if you have small eyes, this is a perfect way to make them look bigger! Just apply it to your lower lash line, and you are good to go! This isn’t a new product, but it’s one of my ride-or-die products.

That’s all for my March favorites. I’m sure April will be a little more exciting after being able to purchase things I’ve been eyeing for the past few weeks. I can’t wait to share them with you all. 🙂

It’s officially Spring and longer days have officially commenced! 🙂

This time of the year is such an exciting time, and although, each season has its beauty, Spring always has one of the best feelings to it. Each season is an opportunity for new beginnings, to start something you’ve been wanting to start and to become who you want to be!

I am hoping the snow in Boston will come to an end, and warmer days are in the short future!

Compared to See by Chloe, these ones are much more affordable! 🙂 And honestly, they are equally as cute, if not more. I think these ones are more wearable, and they match everything!

You can wear them with jeans or this dress I’m wearing and looks cute either way!

I was stuck on buying either these green ones or the nude ones, but I decided to go with green since it goes great with denim! I will have to buy the nude later, too. 🙂

It could be great shoes for Easter (if you celebrate it!), because I think they go great with a yellow dress! And if you’re not wearing a dress, it’s a really cute spring color.

The nude ones are also gorgeous and will go with almost anything. These shoes are so comfortable, and for all my short ladies (like myself), it’s a great way to add some height, comfortably!

I honestly, just want to buy every color, but you know the bank account is telling me otherwise! I also am a responsible adult…I think….

Does anyone else think of the movie “In Her Shoes” whenever talking about shoes? I always think of the sister who says shoes always make you feel good no matter what. It’s so true! You can be at any point in your life, but shoes will always fit and will always empower you! I mean, if the sisters closet is not goals, then I don’t know what is!

10 Affirmations for Self-Love

For today’s wellness Wednesday, I want to share with you some positive affirmations you should repeat to yourself daily. I find the whole saying of ‘you can’t love anyone else until you love yourself’ to be so true.

With affirmations, you allow your inner body (or soul) to believe everything you say, and in turn allows you to be more positive towards yourself. Once you attract that type of love for yourself, then when you go in union with anyone else, you and that person’s love join together in perfect unity – whomever that person may be!

These affirmations are written to help you build confidence, to love your body, your soul and mind. I want you to become whole after repeating these affirmations. I would highly suggest meditating before or after to amplify the effects. Also, if these are uncomfortable to say, you can start with writing it down.

Instructions: Sit relaxed in your chair and take a deep breath. The key is to put your full heart into these affirmations and to believe with every inch and ounce of you every word you say. Even if you don’t 100% believe everything you’re about to say, make a promise with yourself that in that moment, you will put all your trust in everything you say.

Here’s a meditation practice I’ve been enjoying from Tone It Up. I love Karena and she makes it easy for you by talking you through it. She also has affirmations in it as well. Give it a try! It’s simple and makes you feel amazing after. If you need to skip through the beginning, I believe she starts the practice at the 1:58 mark.

The Best Foundations

Highly Rated Foundations | High-End vs. Drug Store

Today we’re talking about the two most hyped up foundations; both from the high end and the drug store side. I thought it would be interesting to know what the holy-grail of foundations from both ends are.

We will talk about durability, ease of use, coverage, packaging and price point.

The two that I mention are quite similar in their formula and is a good comparison if you are money conscious to be able to decide what makes most sense for your budget.

We’ll start with High-End:

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup

Best Foundations

This foundation has been a holy-grail to beauty gurus for many, many years. This was the ride-or-die foundation for a lot of people for many years, until the makeup industry blew up and now a new product seems to come out each week.

Packaging:

It’s packaging is old school, in that it doesn’t have a pump, and in my opinion, they seem to keep that to remind people that it’s been around for a long time. The brand itself has been around forever and it only makes sense that they perfected their foundation. I don’t love that it doesn’t have a pump, but at the same time, it doesn’t bother me too much. I know a lot of people are bothered by it since it can be hard to get the right amount out for use, but I tend to just gently get it out. I do know that if you want a pump for it, I believe MAC sells some that fits perfectly.

Durability:

It promises to have a 15-hour durability and is supposed to be lightweight. As far as the 15-hours, I do think it is long-wear without it looking cakey and gross at the end of the day. I tend to wear it from 7AM to 7PM, and by the end of the 12-hour day, it still looks as beautiful as when I first applied it. It certainly is lightweight and doesn’t feel like you are wearing too much makeup on your skin; it’s super comfortable. It wins a 10 out of 10 for me as far as durability.

Formula:

It’s more on the matte side of things, but my dry-skin people need not to worry, because that’s my skin type and I love this! I don’t think it’s drying at all and allows you to look like you have no makeup with it being lightweight. As far as what it feels like, it’s more liquid compared to other foundations, which seems like it wouldn’t be full coverage, but it sure is (whew, thank goodness!).

Price Point:

This is retailed at $37, which isn’t terrible for a high-end product. These days, foundations tend to be priced higher. I think you get a good use out of it and lasts a very long time, especially if you don’t wear foundation every day.

Overall, I love this foundation and it has been hyped up for many years for many good reasons. Honestly, I truly think this could be worn every day without any discomfort. It doesn’t leave my skin feeling gross after and I don’t break out either. Whenever I have an important event, I can trust to wear this with no problem and have my skin look flawless. It also looks absolutely gorgeous in pictures – double win!

Drug-Store Highly Rated Foundation:

Maybelline Superstay 24-hour Wear

Best Foundations

This foundation is not even one year old yet. It came out last year and quickly became a favorite to many beauty YouTubers (gurus). When it first came out, you couldn’t even order it on Ulta’s website because it was sold out for so long. It didn’t come in the stores until much later. I ended up getting mine on Amazon and it took two months to come to me!! That’s how much it was hyped up. Everyone was trying to get their hands on this foundation.

Packaging:

The packaging is one of the easiest and sleek one’s I’ve encountered for foundations. This one does have a pump, which allows for a better ease of use. It’s light weight and you can bring it with you anywhere. I bring this one to the gym with me as it is the easiest to carry and can do my makeup with the least amount of time. For those of us who love cute packaging, this one is the most eye-catching in the drug-store.

Durability:

This promises to be a 24-hour wear, full-coverage, seamless matte finish breathless and comfortable to wear. I don’t understand why brands promise 24-hours, I get that it’s a marketing technique, but really who wears foundation for that long? Well… I guess maybe if you sleep with it… but you should never, ever do that to your beautiful skin! As much as foundation these days tend to be better for our skin, the best way to prevent breaking out is to let your skin be free.

I do notice that it does last a long time and is durable for my 12-hour wear. It looks as good as it did when I first apply it. As far as durability it wins a 9/10 for me.

Formula:

This one is also targeted towards a matte finish and it sure is what it promises to be! The first few times I wore it, I thought it was the most perfect matte, but recently I’ve found that it can be too drying, especially for someone who has dry/combination skin. I make sure to put on my Smashbox primer before applying this, and I would highly suggest you do the same or put any other moisturizing primer before you apply this. Also, another important suggestion is that you work this on your skin in sections. Since it is quite drying, it can end up looking patchy if you try to do your whole face at once. This foundation is a bit tricky to use at first, but once you follow all those steps, it’s bulletproof. The finish is amazing. I think many beauty gurus love it due to the finish which looks flawless.

Price Point:

Since this is from the drug store, as expected, this one is more on the affordable side. This one is retailed at $11. For the price point, I think it’s worth it. It’s currently my favorite foundation from the drug store.

Highly Rated Foundations

Comparison:

Comparing the two, I would choose the Estee Lauder one as its one that I don’t have to think too much about and know that it will have an amazing finish each time. If you have to budget and need something less expensive, the Maybelline Superstay is a great dupe for it, although having its differences. I think both are highly hyped up for good reasons and I will be using them for many months to come.

Comparting the two pictures, you can see that the drug-store one is a little more patchy and not as seamless as the first picture. But of course, that’s a bit expected with the price point.

Last important fact, both foundations do not offer SPF so make sure to apply some beforehand.

Does anyone else feel like January was about 5 years long and February happened in the blink of an eye?!

It’s crazy to think it’ll be March this week. For me, I’m quite excited, because that means spring is close by for Boston!

I’m so ready for spring fashion and longer days (which has been making an appearance in Boston recently!).

In February, I discovered some great products and great inexpensive makeups and tools that I’m very excited to share with you guys!

Some of them, you may notice were from my Instagram stories, but I wanted to write an in depth review, so that you guys who don’t follow me there can get a better idea for the products.

Revolution Concealer:

I feel that many beauty guru’s have been raving about this all over social media, and for good reasons too. This product is so creamy – I would imagine if I were to put butter under my eyes, this is what it would feel like – it’s that smooth. It does resemble the tarte shape concealer, but is only $7! This is all I’ve been using all month and I’m loving it. I didn’t notice any creasing and the coverage is great. For a drug-store/affordable brand this is for sure my favorite out of all of them.

Kat Von D MetalMatte Mini Eyeshadow Palette:

This was a love at first sight type of palette. I had no intentions to buy anything, and then this came into my sight and I had to have it. I mean can anyone go into Sephora without buying something? I tried the shade velvet and I knew I had to get it. I do think it’s a bit more on the pricey side of the spectrum, because you don’t get as many shades and it’s not a palette that’s versatile in that you can just use only that one for a full look. Regardless of all those facts, I love this because the pigmentation is sooooo DARN good. It is very bright, but the shades are at the same time, very wearable. If you wet your brush before dipping into the shimmer shades, it’s even more pigmented. I used this basically everyday this month and I can’t wait to create more looks with it.

Elf Heart Defensor Highlighter:

I believe this was a collab with a beauty guru, but I don’t remember who (if you remember, comment below!). This was $8 at Ulta, but for some reason it’s no longer available. I’m not really sure why they don’t have it, but this highlighter is gorgeous. I found it on Amazon, but it’s over-priced at $23.  The packaging makes it seem like it would be high end and expensive and it’s not. The mirror on it is great and usable. The pigmentation is amazing and probably the best highlighter for a drug-store brands.

Keune Gloss Spray:

I’m not sure about you guys, but whenever I use dry shampoo my hair gets too dry and doesn’t look nice. It tends to get clumpy and too dry. I’ve been using this gloss spray to add some shine into my hair to fix that problem. It’s made the biggest difference. I get to have my hair look like the first day after having it washed. It makes it look healthy and bouncy. It’s a game changer for me.

Herbivore Botanicals Jade Roller:

I wake up with puffy face and eyes almost each morning. I naturally have chubby cheeks and under eye bags, so it’s usually due to this, but I do notice if I drink too much coffee this also happens. This little tool has been a life saver. Jade is naturally cooling and apparently is a good tool to use before applying your makeup, which I haven’t tried yet. It doesn’t make the biggest difference, but like I’ve said I naturally wake up puffy, so this does help. I have yet to try this by putting it in the freezer, I think that will intensify the effect. Before this, I did the frozen spoon trick where I put two spoons in the freezer and put them under my eyes to lessen the puffiness (which works wonders!). Overall, I am happy with it, for it’s price point of $25, it works well.

How to Stop Dreading Mondays With Mindfulness

I haven’t met many people who actually like Mondays, but I do know it is possible…

Many people don’t enjoy Mondays due to not being satisfied with their job. But it is possible to love Mondays and it usually happens when you find your passion; when you follow what’s within you and your souls calling.

For me, I’m in the midst of my search. I believe finding your purpose is a similar path as someone going in search to find a treasure. You get clues each day of what it is that you’re meant to do and if you listen to the cues and your intuition, you will always be directed towards it.

Do I believe everyone is here with a purpose? Yes, 100%. Now, that doesn’t mean we all follow our purpose. Everyone’s purpose isn’t extravagant either – it could be as simple as being an amazing mother. Or it could be the best doorman; full of enthusiasm and cheerfulness. 

How to Stop Dreading Monday's With Mindfulness

The other day, I really hit a point in my life where it really sank in that we only have one life to live. I understand others have different beliefs, but regardless, no one is guaranteed to live this same exact life. None of us also know for sure what waits for us at death. The point I am trying to make is, stop dreading each moment. In my discovery, it almost felt like I’ve gotten closer to the idea of the purpose of life, which is that we have a purpose to make a difference for the next generation ahead. It’s our duty.

You may be bitter in believing any of this because you may not love your job and you may not be in a good place mentally. I get it. It’s not easy and it’s not a good place to be mentally. And switching jobs isn’t as easy where you can just quit and figure out what to do. Not many of us are at that financial state to do so. 

Now, this doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the process and no reason not to. I believe we should really enjoy each moment. I also believe tribulations make us who we are and believe each path we were given has a purpose in the big picture. With each tribulation, you get closer to who you are meant to be, so, why not have a positive attitude during the process?

Essentially, the ideal time you would stop dreading Mondays is when you start doing the things you are most passionate about. But you may not know what that is yet, and you may not know how to get there if you do know what your passion is. For the time being, if you are at a job that is draining and not motivating, take a step back and write a plan. It’s important to take action each day that will eventually take you out of that state.

You can do this type of practice with any uncomfortable situation, it doesn’t have to be a just on a Monday. Maybe you like your job, but there are other parts or times in your life where you are not enjoying, and you can implement this practice during those times.

To be clear, practicing mindfulness while experiencing uncomfortable situations does not necessarily make it go away, but it does allow you to better cope with the situation and make the experience easier to tackle.

Mindfulness /ˈmīn(d)f(ə)lnəs/ noun a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.

That is the modern day dictionary.com’s explanation on it and they hit it spot on. Mindfulness is a practice in which you become more aware of your surroundings, you notice things you normally would ignore and essentially, it’s a practice to get yourself out of the automatic way of thinking. We are not meant to be like robots and yet we easily act like it in most of our daily routines, which then leads us to miss the important things life has to offer.

Currently, I am reading the Alchemist and it reminds me of the part where the boy is told to hold a spoon full of oil and concentrate only on that spoon without letting anything spill, and while doing this he misses out on all his beautiful surroundings. Not practicing mindfulness is like this. Not being mindful of your surroundings and the little miracles of everyday living is missing out on the beauty of living. So, although, you may be in a position where you are not loving what you are doing, I believe you can always turn it around by practicing mindfulness and being positive that things will change. Of course, you must work through it so that your situation does change, but there is no reason to be miserable during the process. Remember, you only have one life to live – don’t let it go to waste. Everything about this life is extra-ordinary and beautiful – all you have to do is become one with it. 

Remembering that your work doesn’t have to take up all your life is one step closer to stop dreading Mondays or any other day. You can make anything else become the dominant part of your day by focusing on that one activity. For example, for me I love taking cycling or boxing classes, which I do in the mornings before work. I focus on how good it made me feel, how fun it was, how strong it made me feel all day instead of focusing on the bad parts of my day. You can also do it vice versa where you can hype yourself up for your class and how you will be taking care of your body at the end of the day.

Throughout my day, I tune into the little things that happen, such as focusing on someone’s face while they are talking to me or focusing on a song I’m listening to or just noticing my surroundings. It may seem so minuscular of just focusing on one thing, but it really is the small things that make the biggest impact. Mindfulness is like this in that way that every small thing you focus on allows you to be more in tune with your body and soul. It takes in all the small things that happen to you and allows you to appreciate them immensely.

When I discovered mindfulness, I felt like I discovered the key of life. It’s not an easy practice, but with all things, it takes time and effort. I use an app called Chill, where it reminds you to be mindful throughout the day. You can also view your mindfulness quote each day and I think it’s a nice little practice in your day. 

How to Stop Dreading Monday's With Mindfulness

Here are some other things you can do to ensure you won’t dread Monday’s:

  1. Go to the gym first thing in the morning
  2. Wear something that makes you confident and happy
  3. Write one goal you would like to accomplish for that day
  4. Meditate
  5. Laugh. Call your mom/dad/sister/brother or best friend and just laugh it out – train your mind to be happy on Mondays
  6. Health = your wealth. Feed your body nourishing foods and take good care of your temple
  7. Have a gratitude journal. Write down everything your grateful for each morning. It may take a while until the success of this will show, but just be patient and you will notice your heart is growing to be more grateful each day, which in turn will make you more positive and allow you to manifest more of what you want

Until you reach the moment where Mondays become an ordinary day where you can fully enjoy it, try to do this routine to improve your week. Always start on a strong note, because life no matter what will catch you on the blind side. And like my mother always says, be stronger than life and you’ll be guaranteed success!

Finally, always remember, progress = happiness, so every small little win you have, don’t forget to celebrate it! Every time you have a good feeling, stay there for a little longer than you normally would. Feel it out and with your mindfulness practice really notice how it makes you feel. When you prolong a good feeling, it will allow you to feel and stay more positive throughout the day, but also will allow you to look back at it and remind yourself of the experience.

Hope you can implement mindfulness to your days and to your Mondays and realize how wonderful little things can really be. We are not guaranteed any of this, but we are given this gift and it’s important to enjoy it, to not take ourselves too seriously and strive to make it a better place for all because we are all in it together.

Happiness: highly sought out emotion by humankind, but inevitably seen as complicated and not always attainable.

Sometimes all it takes to feel happiness is to change your perspective. Happiness, like many other things in life, is a process of small wins. You won’t always feel good everyday, but you can choose how you feel everyday. I hope in reading this, it will change your perspective and allow you to go do the things that make you happy, which could be as simple as eating your favorite food or drinking tea and reading. However way that may be for you, I hope you live a life full of magic and hope you look at your life with awe because all of what we have is truly amazing.

5 Things That Make Me Happy:

  1. Watching Makeup Tutorials

If you couldn’t guess by now, I love makeup. I’ve loved it since I was in middle school. I would always dress up and play with makeup because it always put me in a better mood. Makeup is fun, exciting and it’s washable. To me, makeup is like playing with art and making your own art. It doesn’t matter if you are good or not, it’s a form of therapy in some way. Everything in the world or in my life could be going wrong or could be a mess, but makeup is always there to cheer me up and to remind me not to take life so seriously!

    2. TurnStyle Cycling

I am addicted to this, and luckily for me, it’s a good addiction to have. I have been going about once a week and it seems to be the perfect amount for me in conjunction with my gym. I love this because it allows me to feel strong, and gets rid of any limitations I have on myself. I love the songs they play and love how intense it is. I always give it all I got…and come out of it so sweaty! It’s like a little mind game I play on myself to prove that I am stronger than I believe. Who doesn’t want to feel strong? I come out of it so happy and eagerly looking forward to going back to this studio each time.

    3. Writing

I love writing, if you couldn’t tell by now. But I especially like writing in my journal. I like to write more about positive things and whenever I finish writing it’s like all my problems and anxiety go away. It’s a quick 10 minute breather to be mindful and to focus on one thing. I’ve been journaling since I was in the 4th grade and I am excited that one day my kids will be able to go on my life journey with me by reading everything I’ve written. If you haven’t tried journaling I highly suggest it. All you have to do is just write. It could be about anything that’s on your mind; just grab a pen and paper and start writing about the first thing that pops up on your mind!

    4. Reading

Reading takes you to another world, it allows you to forget about all your troubles and focus on one thing. Both writing and reading is a form of meditation. You could have a terrible day, or could be in an angry mood, but once you start reading everything goes away. It also grows your mind, and anything that allows you to grow, allows you to live out this life a little longer, I believe. I always learn something new with each book I read and feel that I become a better version of myself.

    5. Music

Lastly, this one is so crucial for me. Music goes as far back as I can remember. I mean I’m sure everyone enjoys listening to music, but for me, it has always had a deeper meaning. It allowed me to get through times when I was sad, angry, disappointed, disgusted – really any emotions I’ve had, I was able to change it with music. Growing up, if anything was going wrong in my life, I would just listen to music and forget about it. Music takes me to another place and allows me to be imaginative and creative in my thoughts.

Those are the 5 important things that always put me in a better mood or allow me to be calm and mindful.

3 Simple Ways to Improve Your Gut Health

Isn’t that how it goes? We all put ourselves on such a high pedestal when the new year strolls in, but why? We are all human and we make mistakes. I think the best way to have a great year is to not put yourself on a high pedestal and on unattainable goals.

Small wins and small fights will get you to your goals, I promise. When you don’t listen to what the diet industry is telling you to eat, and instead eat what your body is telling you to eat, miracles happen. That is; you start to eat because you love your body and not because you want to punish it. I certainly do not want you to do that. I want you to cherish your beautiful body that was brought into this life in order to live out your best life!

This year I will be focusing more on health and I figured what great way to start then to start with your detoxifying your gut! Gut health is the cause of many, many things. If you can keep your gut healthy, then you can truly feel healthier and happier.* I want you to let go of your expectations, and I want you to take baby steps. If you are more advanced in your health, then I want you to still cherish your small wins everyday and step out of your comfort zone.

So essentially, regardless if you are a beginner or very knowledgeable in the health category, you will both be practicing the same thing – which is small wins and a minor habit change.

As clichéd as the “New Year, New Me” saying is, something about the new year really does feel refreshing. You can really let go of what you didn’t like from the past year, and work on improving yourself for the new year. As I always say, if you are not growing then you are dying. I know, that sounds intense, but it’s true. I’ve seen it happen. When you don’t grow your mind and body, your body reacts negatively (as you would imagine). So, let’s become healthier and happier together – one small win at a time!

Why is gut health important:

In the simplest terms, if you want to have more energy, better skin, feel good, and allow you to shed some weight, then you have to take care of your gut!

These are in no means ways to get “skinny”! This is purely for health as in everything to do with diet should always be about your well being and overall health.

You want to keep yourself healthy and strong to experience life as long as you can, and it’s best to start healthy habits early on. But you’re also never late to change bad habits, so let’s first kick the bad stuff out of our gut to have it function properly in order to absorb the good stuff.

Interesting facts:

Did you know we have more bacteria cells than human cells? Some doctors joke that we are more bacteria then human species.

Serotonin in the body is produced mainly in the gut!!! You know, the feel good stuff that you need to feel happy. 

This is the part where if you want to feel good, you should first try taking care of your gut health. Nothing else you do will work, if you don’t take the gut in order to have more energy.

What happens in our inside excretes into what happens externally. Maintaining the bad bacteria against the good bacteria is a good way to fix all of this.

I know we all have busy lifestyles and doing anything extraordinary for our health is usually out of the question these days. So I wanted to show you these 3 different ways you can improve your gut health without much effort!

3 Simple Ways to Improve Your Gut Health:

1. Lemon/Ginger/Turmeric Shot

As many of you may already know from this old blog post, where I went in depth about  the benefits about lemon, ginger and turmeric, then you already know I like to take these in the mornings. This allows my body to flush out all the toxins while taking in all the benefits of ginger, turmeric, and lemons. It’s a quick and easy way to help your digestion and your gut while improving your health, skin and many, many other functions. It’s quick, easy and I find that if you have a juicer, it makes things even easier, but a blender will work as well.

2. Lemon + Apple Cider Tea

For days that I do not want to take an intense shot, I will have a “tea” version of something that will allow me to detox naturally and improve my gut health. To do this, I pour half or a whole lemon, a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and a little bit of honey in luke warm water.  You want to make sure the water is not too hot as this will kill some of the enzymes in the lemon. This tea gives me a boost of energy while cleaning out my gut, helps my digestion, and clears my skin. I really notice the energy right away. If you are trying to consume less coffee, give this a try! The apple cider vinegar has so many benefits which some are actually supported by science, but in its simplest explanation, it stimulates digestion hence why some crazy diets tells you to incorporate this magic item. I’ve been having this every morning lately since its the winter time and it feels nice to have something warm and I really notice the energy and my skin improving – definitely give this a try! If you don’t like apple cider vinegar, you can always just put lemon and some mint.

3. Chia Seeds

Thus far, if none of those options sounded good to you then I would suggest trying chia seeds. This is fairly the quickest way to help your gut. It’s also not as intense as the two other options above. It does have a weird texture, so if you are not into that then you may not like this option. For this one, all you have to do is mix a tablespoon of chia seeds with some water and wait until it becomes a gel like form. Once it is at that consistency, it is ready to consume. You can have this first thing in the morning. The gel like consistency of the chia seeds will allow it to grab (kind of like glue) all of the bad stuff in your body and excrete it easily. If that doesn’t sound good to you, you can always try to incorporate chia seeds in your diet in a more delicious way, like chia seeds pudding!

Why Is Gut Healthy Important?

Gut health is crucial for anyone who is suffering with any of these symptoms:

  • Bloating
  • Constipation/diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Headaches
  • Acne
  • Mood swings

Some things to keep in mind:

The first place you should always start your journey to good gut health is with what you are eating. If you work together with the list above and have a good diet, then your gut health will be healed in no time.

Some foods to consider to eat are more greens that are cooked. Perhaps try eliminating dairy out of your diet for about 30 days to see how your gut reacts to it and see if it makes you feel better. You can also try this with gluten, if that seems to be your problem.

Some foods that are great for anti-bacterial properties are grape seed oilginger, garlic, fermented vegetables such as saurkraut and oregano oil. Of course, do not take all of these all at once and aim to try one at a time and see what works for you.

Once we have gotten rid of the bad bacteria, we have to bring in the good bacteria. You can do this by taking probiotics everyday. The brand that I love is Garden Of Life brand, which is the one I use. For men, I would suggest this one.

Like I said below, it’s not all that complicated to help your gut everyday. Try one of those and see what works for you! And I hope this allows you to research further about your gut health and to give it a try to keep it healthy.

7 Holy Grail Liquid Lipsticks

Liquid lipsticks are a stable nowadays to anyone’s makeup collection and most brands have a liquid lipsticks on their collection.

I want to stay Stila started this trend, at least from what I remember.

Anastasia must’ve came out with liquid lipsticks shortly after, and they did an equally great job. Their formula and pigmentation is wonderful, although, more on the dry side.

An average price for one these types of lipsticks are usually around $19, which may seem a bit pricey for some of you, but if you buy the right shade and if it is an everyday wearable color, you could get a good use out of it and would last a long time.

Personally, I rather get the better product and pay a little more to be able to get a better use out of it.

But on the contrary, recently I found that you can really find steals at the drug-store, which are just as good.

I always try to share with you guys the great drug store steals. In the investment world, you would call these the “unicorns” because they are so rare and yet so amazing!

This shade was in my very first blog post, monthly favorites, 2017 favorites and now it’s in my holy-grail liquid lipsticks post. Is that enough proof for you to see that I am obsessed! Whenever I am running out of my house and need to put on a lipstick really quick, I’ll gravitate towards this one as it is such a beautiful nude. I never run out of Liquid Lipsticks and I am at the end of this one!

  1.       Anastasia Beverly Hills – Trouble Liquid Lipstick

Love this color. It’s a beautiful nude with a hint of mauve, but not too bold. It’s so girly and perfect shade for a date night. It is a bit drying but just make sure you moisturize your lips before and you are good to go!

  1.       Stila – patina

This shade is my best friends favorite and I initially tried it from her collection and quickly fell in love with it. I love this one as it is such a unique color. It’s a little more on the darker side of things for nude lipsticks, but also a gorgeous color! It’s on the darker mauve  scale of things. If you follow Champagne & Chanel, then you’ve seen that she wears this all the time.

  1.       Dose of Colors – Truffle

I tried this the last months of 2017 and quickly fell in love. Dose of Colors have the most comfortable to wear liquid lipsticks! They feel like you are not even wearing lipstick. It’s not drying, and this shade is so beautiful. It’s on the brown side of nudes and an everyday wearable color!

  1.       Stila – Bacca

This shade is hard to explain. It’s on the red spectrum, but has different undertones – more like on the pink/red side of things. It’s super wearable and is perfect for Valentine’s day if you want to do something different than just red lips. Anyone who isn’t sure if they can pull of red lipsticks, try this one and you might be shocked at how flattering this is!

  1.      Maybelline – 05 Loyalist

This is a drugstore one – so it’s on the affordable side of things. I honestly didn’t think I would like this as much as I do. I love wearing it alone, but also love wearing it on top of darker shades which allow for an ombré effect. I have two other shades from this line and love those as well.

  1.       Anastasia Beverly Hills – vamp Liquid Lipstick

This one is a perfect fall shade. Or winter since that is the season we’re in now. Love how wearable this is as well and the perfect shade you will ever need for your fall/winter makeup looks! I feel like if I can somewhat pull it off with my small lips, then you can too! I mean it’s all about self-confidence. If you act confident – anything will look good on you 🙂

Reading list for 2018

Recommended Books & My 2018 Reading List

One of my goals for this year is to read 2 books each month, so by 2019 I will have read 24 books. I believe this goal is attainable and realistic.

Last year, my goal was to read 50 books, which I did not get anywhere close to that. Why? Because my goal was unrealistic (not everyone can be Bill Gates), and not achievable from the start. That is not to say that I cannot achieve that goal maybe in a year or two, but I just need to build momentum first.

2017 was a good year for some amazing books, but there are some I haven’t finished yet. I tend to read about 3 books at a time. Who else does that? I like to go from one book to another depending on my mood. At the end of the day, reading should be enjoyable. It’s kind of like watching TV; you tune into the show or movie you are in the mood to watch, so I tend to do the same with books.

Here is My 2017 Recommended Books:

  1. Zero to One: Notes on Startups, Or How to Build the Future by Peter Thiel with Blake Masters

This was the last book I read in 2017, and was a great choice. This is written by the co-founder of PayPal and advises on anyone who is looking to start a business, although, if that is not your goal, it’s also a great read for anyone interested in stories of many companies and powerful people like Elon Musk, Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos. This book was very well written and super insightful. It’s one of those books that you can look back on and reread any parts that are helpful. It’s an easy and quick read, which is also great for anyone that doesn’t want to commit to a long book. This is also a great book to inspire you to keep the “American Dream” going as Peter shows you that there is still so much we have yet to discover.

  1. The $100 Start-Up By Chris Guillebeau

This is a great book for anyone who is looking to travel and work remotely by building a startup with a low cost. It’s also inspiring to know that you don’t need millions of dollars to start a company. I really enjoyed this one to get some ideas on how I could be creative myself.

  1. The Four-Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris

This is a great book for anyone in the work field and who wants to maximize their efficiency in their work and how to be effective every single hour of the day. We don’t realize how much time gets wasted in the day by minuscular things. Tim shows you how you can fix the process and shorten the time for projects or meetings. He talks about how to be productive and how you can migrate your work or outsource unto others. There was even a story of how one guy outsourced all his work to an assistant in India, where she would even reply to his wife. Crazy, I know. This is also a great book for anyone who owns their own blog/business/start-up. It teaches and gives you so many resources. This book is raved about for all the good reasons.

  1. The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey

If one of your goals this year is to get out of debt, or to be better with your money, then Dave Ramsey is your guy. This book shows you how to quickly, but realistically, get out of debt. If you have student loans – this is your book. If you don’t, you still would benefit from this book tremendously as it shows you how any average American can become a millionaire by saving and putting their money in the right investments. It was quite eye opening for me.

  1. Boost Your Brain Power in 60 Seconds by Michelle Schoffro Cook

On the contrary, if one of your goals is to be healthier, this book is for you. It shows you how we can prevent many diseases by the foods we eat, how each food effects our body and what is best to feed our brain for optimal use. I enjoyed this book very much and it’s still by my bedside for as a reference for any of the concepts.

  1. Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert

Lastly, if you read any book from my list, make sure it’s this one. This one wins my favorite for 2017. I have it on my Audible app, and re-listen to it whenever I feel that I need to hear Elizabeth’s words again. If her name sounds familiar to you, it’s because it is, she is the author of Eat, Pray, Love. This was beautifully written and the audible is narrated by Elizabeth herself, which is so calming to listen to. I absolutely love this book and cannot reiterate how much every creative person needs this book in their life. It shows you concepts of Law of Attraction, talks about how to tackle your fears and how to be the best version of yourself. I read/listened to this book 3 times this year.

List of Books to Read in 2018:

  1. Everybody Lies: Big Data, New Data, and What the Internet Can Tell Us About Who We Really Are by Seth Stephens-Davidowits

This book is about how big corporations, or the government takes all our information and uses it. I quickly became interested in this book after I heard the speech from one of the data analytics, who shared his process of how he helped Trump win office from all the research they did with our data. Facebook is one of the places where a lot of these companies go and I figured it’s time to learn what kind of information is getting used and what they know about who we are.

  1. The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks by Steven Pressfield

I saw Mel Robbins reading and recommending this on her Instagram story, so I figured I’d give it a try. It’s a book about breaking out of your fears and succeeding in your creative space. For anyone that is wanting to create something, but having blockage from your own thoughts, I think this would be a nice book. This book talks about resistance – which deters you from showing up, and not giving it your best.

  1. The Success Principles: How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be by Jack Canfield

The author of this is the co-creator of Chicken Soup for the Souls – popular series of books. This is a classic and maybe you guys already know about this. I think this book will be good for me to change my mindset, how to build my mind to be stronger, to persevere and how to be an achiever. So much of success comes from within your mind and I think this will teach me how to have a stronger mind. From my recommendations I’ve received, this seems like a good one to pick up if you are looking to create your dream life.

  1. The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson

This book is a good book if you want to be consistent with your work. It also talks about small wins, which is something I highly value. Seems to be a good book to learn about good work ethics and how to persevere through any work.

  1. Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari

Brief history of humans – I think it would be interesting to learn more about humans and the history of how we have evolved.

  1. Storyteller’s Secret by Carmine Gallo

This one teaches you how to be a better public speaker, which I believe everyone can benefit from. It’s a skillset you need as an adult and it’s better to be prepared now, then hope you knew more about the topic once an event comes up.

7. The Company of Women by Grace Bonney.

This book interviews a bunch of women entrepreneurs, which I’m sure as a female will be quite inspiring. With so many movements in the few couple of months for women; this year really feels like the year of women – so I’m sure this will be a good read.

8. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Lastly, this one is a classic. I’m sure you probably have already read this or it may also be on your reading list. I have yet to read it, and I am excited to see what the rave is all about. I heard that it has the law of attraction embedded in it without being too much.


That is all for all my recommended list and 2018 wish list! If you can tell – I love learning and I find that consistently growing your mind is super important, hence why most of my books are self-help. I find these types of books, personally, are the ones that grow my mind the most. You may be different and that is totally okay.
