Should You Buy The New Aspyn Ovard Tarte Palette? | Review

Aspyn Ovard is one of the most successful YouTubers out there. Her channel is mostly  about lifestyle related topics, with the inclusion of occasional beauty related topics.

Tarte and Aspyn recently collaborated together to create a beautiful palette and I thought we should talk about it and review it.

I know this has been an overly hyped about palette and, although, I am not a big Aspyn follower, this palette grabbed my attention and I had to see what it was all about myself.

The Good:

The packaging is really what got to me as most products do. If a product has beautiful packaging, the brand has already convinced me 75% of  the way in buying their product.

This one has flowers all over it with beautiful rose gold interior. The mirror is huge and amazing to use. Most palette’s have smaller mirrors, which sometimes are not that useful and shouldn’t even be included. The shadows are beautiful colors and the gold one really stands out in my eyes.

I love that there is a blush and a highlighter in this palette, which makes this palette versatile and unlike any others.

Aspyn Ovard Tarte Palette Review

The quality of this is what you would expect from Tarte. It resembles the same quality as most of their eye shadow palettes, but some shades are harder to work with. Such as the “Heart of Gold” shade (the gold one) is beautiful, but has so much fall out. I couldn’t even use it with just a brush and had to wet my brush. Usually, I attempt to use glitter shadows first with a brush just to see the quality and this one was probably the worst one I’ve ever used. But once you do use it with a wet brush, it is a beautiful color.

These shadows blend pretty easily and beginner friendly as they are not too pigmented.

The Bad:

This palette is a neutral palette, so any gal that loves a natural, simple look will love the colors….. but they are too hard to work with because they are not pigmented enough. Don’t get me wrong, I love a neutral look, but I had to reach for other palettes to create a look that I wanted it. The shadows are too light that I don’t think many skin tones could use this.

I think a very light skin tone would be fine with this, but other than that, it’s too light for other skin tones. Furthermore, keep in mind, I am considered a light skin tone (when I am not tan), and I struggled big time!

The only colors that I loved from this is the “heart of gold” shade and the blush. Tarte always kills it with their blush, so that wasn’t a surprise.

Aspyn Ovard Tarte Palette Review

The darkest color in this is the brown shade, which wasn’t even dark enough. You couldn’t create a soft glam look with it, if that was something that you wanted, which I think is needed in a versatile palette.

As you can see from the swatches, I had a really hard time trying to make sure you could see them in picture. I had to apply a few coats to make sure it was visible.

Aspyn Ovard Tarte Palette Review

Is It Worth It?:

Overall, although the packaging is beautiful and I love the gold shade, I don’t think this is worth your money, especially priced at $39. I think you would be better off with a Naked palette, if you wanted a neutral palette with amazing quality. I know that’s so old school, but if you’re only looking to ad a few stable pieces to your makeup collection, urban decay is a must!

I understand if you are a follower of Aspyn and want to support her, then by all means, you should do that. But if you are in it for the makeup, then I think you can definitely save your money.

Side note: I went into Ulta to return this and the cashier lady was like “Girl, this palette sucks!”, and I keep hearing the same thing from other people as well!

What do you guys think? Did you try this palette yet? Let me know!

Ozzy

Flower Beauty Foundation Review

Did Flower Beauty Change The Game for Affordable Brands?

Flower beauty officially launched at Ulta a few months back and it’s been all the hype in the beauty world.

If you did not know already, Flower Beauty was created by the lovely Drew Barrymore, which only makes us, makeup junkies that more intrigued. Drew Barrymore’s hit movie “50 First Dates” were the epitome of relationship goals. If you haven’t watched it yet, girl what are you doing, you’re missing out!

Apparently, Flower Beauty has been around since 2012, and just recently launched at Ulta.

To be honest, I only tried this makeup line because of my love for Drew Barrymore. She is such a kind-hearted soul and I had to see how her creation measured up to her success in the media business.

I didn’t really have high hopes for it as I haven’t yet found an affordable brand that I’ve been wildly impressed with. At least definitely not for foundations. But to my surprise, Flower Beauty is absolutely something to talk about….

Review:

Flower Beauty Review

Flower Beauty is sold at Ulta, like I’ve mentioned above, and has variety of products to achieve a full face look. I only picked up her foundation, concealer and blush, which were all products that were the most hyped about. I’ve been wearing these products for the past month, almost everyday. For me personally, I know if I will like a face product within a few tries, if not the first try. But, for a full in depth review, I wanted to make sure I knew everything about these products before I mentioned it to you guys, which is why I tried it for a month before writing this.

Foundation:

Flower Beauty Foundation Review

This foundation promises to be luminous and have a nude-skin feel. I can attest that it definitely does have both of those feels to it. The foundation also has spf of 18, which I don’t really get the number, but hey, it’s still something!

I am absolutely so impressed with the foundation. I cannot believe how amazing it is, especially for the price point. It is full coverage and leaves your skin looking like skin. Honestly, if there is any drug-store or affordable brand foundation you want to get, this has to be it. This feels luxurious and works just as well as some of my high-end foundations. It has a dewy finish, but it doesn’t feel oily or heavy. I don’t think any of my oily skin people will have a problem with it. It really feels universal to me as far as having it work for anyone. It’s super creamy and applies smoothly without any patches. I’ve always had a problem with drug-store brands being patchy on my skin, but not with this one! The shade I have been using is warm beige L4.

Concealer:

Flower Beauty Review

This one is also creamy and the tip of it reminds me of the Nars concealer. It works just as beautifully. It may not be as good as Tarte Tape Shape, but it gets pretty darn close. If you are trying to save money and are in need of a good concealer, I would highly recommend you this one. I mean it’s all I’ve been wearing all month long, which to me says a lot. The shade I am using is L3-4 Light.

Blush:

Flower Beauty Review

This blush is everything you need. It gives you the most beautiful finish and color to your face. I always get scared with drug-store brands having too much pigment in their blush, but not this one, it’s the perfect amount. It’s your classic blush. The shade I have is Sweet Pea and it works really well with my skin tone. This is currently the most highly-rated product from her line at Ulta. The foundation comes in second and concealer is fourth.

Packaging:

Her packaging definitely has a hippie vibe as expected. The foundation has a pump, the concealer feels luxurious and resembles a Nars concealer and the blush is packaged simple, but beautifully, with a flower embedded on it.

For me, I think Flower Beauty gets 10/10 for packaging. The fact that the foundation has a pump is always a positive and the concealer being easy to use and resembling a high-end brand is something that most drug-store brands don’t do. The blush is equally beautiful to look at and use.

Durability:

I’ve used it with a primer and without one and it didn’t make a difference! You can’t say that with most foundations. Typically, with most foundations, you need to use a primer for best results and durability, but not with this one! Of course, definitely use one still if you have a primer, but if you don’t have one you are good to go!

I like that it doesn’t promise you certain number of hours of wear because honestly, I feel like that’s always crazy. Like no foundation should last you 24 hours because you need to let your skin be free at night. This foundation says it’s an all-day wear, which is reasonable. I can also attest that it does last all day. It looks equally as beautiful as when you first applied it. I’m not one to repurchase a drug-store or affordable brand foundations, but this one definitely wins my heart for me to want to do that. The concealer is equally great, but you know my love for Tarte, that it’s hard to confess all my love for this concealer. It’s beautiful nonetheless, it just won’t ever have my full heart – I’m sure you get it…

Price:

This is a wallet-friendly brand – with most products being under $15. The foundation is priced at $13.99, blush and concealer are both $9.99. It’s such a steal; seriously, I cannot wait to try out her other products. Currently, her liquid matte color is the third most popular from her brand and I’m already thinking I need those as well! You really cannot beat the price point and the quality of this brand.

Overall…

I’d say, don’t look anywhere else for affordable makeup, you’ve hit the jackpot with Flower Beauty. I can imagine now that this is at Ulta, other affordable brands will have to step up their game because this brand truly feels luxurious and resembles high-end products. It makes me happy because you can actually get makeup that’s both affordable and fabulous. I wouldn’t rave about it this much if it weren’t true.

Let me know if you’ve tried any of her other products and what you think about them!

Until next time…

Ozzy

Ulta Haul and Review

Huge ULTA Haul & Review | Winter 2017

Christmas came early for me this year! I had the 20% coupon at Ulta, and of course I had to use it…..

This haul consists of a lot of ‘cult favorites’ and stuff that I’ve been meaning to try for quite some time.

I’m so excited to share it with you guys as I’ve been trying these products for a few days now and have been loving all of it!

I figured I would share this before Christmas as all my makeup junkies may be (hopefully) getting gift cards to Ulta or Sephora and you can have an idea of what to buy!

I bought everything online and was eagerly waiting for my package to share with you guys. I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited for a package. It’s nice that it came a week early as a Christmas present to myself! Sometimes you gotta treat yo’ self because if you can’t value you then who will!?!

I think the key is to do what makes you the happiest and to enjoy it without any guilt. For me, that is makeup. I get so joyful thinking and talking about makeup, that I know it’s something I should do without any guilt.

Anyways, let’s get to the important part…..

Here is what I got at Ulta:

Dose of Colors –

Liquid Matte Lipstick in Truffle & Liquid Matte Lipstick in Stone

Huge Ulta Haul

So, apparently these two shades are a cult classic and are shades that most beauty gurus have. Before this purchase, I never tried anything from Dose of Colors and I am quite shocked at how amazing they are from what I know of these two products.

The stone shade is more of a mauve tone and it is absolutely beautiful. The Truffle shade is a little more on the brown side of things and is a great nude shade. It’s a bit darker than your typical nude.

These two shades are super wearable and an everyday stable. What I was so shocked about with these lipsticks is that usually matte lipsticks are very drying and can also look dry on your lips.  Those types of matte lipsticks can be quite uncomfortable to wear, but these ones felt so moisturizing and yet still looked matte. Honestly, I was shocked…. it doesn’t even feel like you are wearing lipstick – it’s crazy!

I am officially a Dose of Colors fan. I can’t wait to try their other products. 🙂

Too Faced –

Chocolate Gold Palette

There has been such a rave around this new palette that I had to try it myself. Not particularly because there was so much rave around it, but really it looks beautiful and caught my eye. I had a good feeling that I would really like it. I was not wrong. This is so pigmented and so festive, especially around this time of year. I do love Too Faced eye shadow palette’s so I wasn’t too surprised of how great this one is. I love that this palette comes with transition shade colors, so you can really do a complete look using only this palette which is great! Apparently, the gold is real and yes, it does smell like chocolate as always. Too Faced has a 20% off your first purchase when you sign up, so if you’re looking to purchase their products, I would suggest you do that. I’m all for saving any type of money whenever I can.

Memoallure.com Too Faced Review

Benefit –

Hoola Bronzer & GALifornia Blush

From Benefit, I got my ride-or-die bronze – Hoola. I’m sure many of you love this one as well. I love using their contour stick and then setting that with the Hoola powder. It really looks so beautiful and ‘natural’ or as natural as makeup can look! Those two products are really products I don’t think I can live without.

Something new for me is Benefits blush. I was intrigued after I saw someone on YouTube using it. It’s the GALifornia Blush. It smells so nice and looks so beautiful – both on and in the package. It’s shimmery and has a sun kissed glow type of feel to it. It’s honestly so beautiful and is subtle. I really don’t like overpowering blushes and this one is not one of those. I was a little hesitant because looking at it you’d think it’d be too pigmented, but it really is not. This in some way reminds me of the Nars Orgasm blush. I love that one as well as it is also super wearable.

Maybelline –

Ulta Haul and Review

As many of you may already know from this post, that I am obsessed with Maybelline’s Super Stay Matte inks. The formula is wonderful, especially for a drug store brand. So, I had to try different shades to see how if they perform the same. I got the shades 75- Fighter and 10-Dreamer. I haven’t tried them yet, but I have high hopes for both of the shades. I am loving the brown fighter shade it seems like such a great winter shade. Dreamer is more of a pink shade and I think it will look so cute as a date night look or for Valentine’s day!

Real Techniques –

Ulta was having a deal where you could buy one get the second 50% off some brands, and Real Techniques was one of them. So was Maybelline, which is why I bought those two shades above. Real Technique has some of the best brushes for an affordable brand. They really are the winners for me in this department.

Ulta Haul and Review

I bought the Diamond shaped sponge and the blush brush. And I may say I did such a good job choosing these two products because I am obsessed with both products. In particular, I AM ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED with the diamond sponge. I honestly bought it because I thought it was cute and packaging really wins me over for makeup, but it exceeded my expectations. Honestly, I may like this more than the original Beauty Blender. Really, I do. It’s crazy, I know.  The bottom of the Diamond is flat and great for applying your makeup and the tip of it isn’t as sturdy as I’d like, but it still works. If you don’t like that you could also just squeeze it and use the other edges, which is what I’ve been doing. I love this so much.

Tarte –

Empowered hybrid gel foundation in light sand

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I was done with my cart and didn’t want to purchase anything else…. but then I saw that Tarte was having a sale for one of their foundations, so I had to try it out. I believe I paid only $10 for it. They were also having the sale for the brush that goes with this foundation, but it was sold out. Such a bummer! I didn’t have high hopes for this foundation and wasn’t going to be too disappointed if it didn’t work out as it didn’t break the bank for me. But it ended up being perfect for me. It is not full coverage but leaves your skin looking so flawless and is perfect for those days that you want to do a natural look or want to wear it in a professional setting. I will for sure wear this in the office. I love it so much and love the packaging as it makes things so much easier.

memoallure.com Ulta Haul and Review

The second product I got from Tarte is no new news at this point and that is the Shape Tape concealer. This one is my second tube, and I was out of it, so I had to restock on it.

Ofra-

Ulta Haul and Review

I’ve been so intrigued to try Nikki Tutorial’s collab with Ofra as Nikki is the queen of highlights. I knew that I wouldn’t be disappointed, so I purchased it. And yes, as highly expected, it did not disappoint. It is really #goals for highlighting your face. I got the shade “Glazed Donut” as I do not have a highlighter in this shade. I love it so far and can’t wait to play around with it.

Wet N’ Wild-

319B Highlighting Powder

Ulta Haul and Review

Wet N’ Wild has been killing it with every product that they’ve come out with this year and I figured I’d try their highlighter as well. This was only $4.99 which is crazy so I’m hoping to like it. I haven’t tried it, but it looks beautiful. I love their blush and have talked about it in this post, so I think this won’t disappoint. The packaging is gorgeous on this. It has a flower embedded on the product which is so beautiful to me.

Physicians Formula-

Butter Bronzer

Okay, I think many of you have heard of this product already, but I have never tried it. I’ve heard so many beauty gurus rave about it, so I had to try it for myself. And I have not been disappointed. I really love this one as well. It is buttery as the name suggests and it smells like a vacation. No, seriously it does. It has a coconut fragrant to it. It’s not too overpowering, either. So far, so good with this.

Elf –

Sculpt & Shine Brush Set

Memoallure.com Ulta Haul and Review

Lastly, I bought this package of brushed from Elf. This might be my first product from Elf and it did not disappoint. This is the contour kit. I really needed something like this as I usually use a beauty blender for my contouring needs and now when I don’t want to use a beauty sponge for my look, I can just use this kit. This was only $10, and it is amazing. The first brush is for baking around the cheek area to fix your contour or bronzer so that it’s sharper. The second brush is for setting your concealer under your eyes. The third brush is great for nose contouring or getting smaller areas. Looks like this is only $7 on Amazon, which is even better!

That is all for my Ulta haul this time around. I was not disappointed with any of the products I tried and I guess that’s mainly because I did my homework before buying all of these products. I would highly suggest that you guys do the same before buying anything. If I’ve said something works great on me, go and research that product more, maybe on YouTube or other beauty bloggers to get the best idea of that product!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

xoxo,

Ozzy

10 Makeup Brushes You Need

Happy FriYAY, guys! Super excited for this weekend because the weather here in Boston is looking pretty promising! Summer weather is taking its sweet time arriving here and ,although, today is a bit rainy here, it looks like it’s going to start getting nicer after today!

Anyways, I wanted to share my favorite, ride-or-die makeup brushes with you because you might be missing out if you don’t have these! And, I do not want you to have any sort of FOMO.

These makeup brushes are tried and true and whenever I pack my makeup for traveling, I have the hardest time letting go of any one of them (I usually end up bringing all of them!). Most of them are from Mac cosmetics, but I’m sure you could find dupes for cheaper. I am just obsessed with Mac brushes and I also have a discount with them because I am an esthetician, so it’s not too expensive on my end. This is just to give you an idea, so don’t feel the need to go out and buy expensive brushes. But if you must and can save to get these, then I’d highly suggest it 🙂

1.Mac 224 Tapered Blending Brush

Mac Makeup Brushes - Blending Brush

This is such a great blending brush. If you have any harsh lines, this will smooth it out and get rid of it. It’s super soft and easy to use. It makes things so much easier and quicker. It’s kind of what you need for convenience of how flawless it makes your look.

2. Mac 239 Eye Shader Brush

Best Mac Makeup Brushes

This is the most perfect eye shadow brush. I believe Sigma has a similar one, which I haven’t tried, but if you are looking for a dupe that is less expensive, I would say Sigma is a good brand to try. This is also very easy to use. I think that’s the point with Mac makeup brushes, they want to make your life easier and convenient, and who doesn’t want that? I love using this with my Mac Fix+ for a perfect shadow application. If you use those together, your eye shadow will not move for a very long time, which is great for a full day wear!

3. Mac 217 Blending Brush

Mac Blending Brush

The great thing about Mac brushes is that they will last you FOREVER. They’re not my ride-or-die makeup brushes for nothing! I’ve had this brush here for many years, and it’s still put together, applies so perfectly and hasn’t disappointed me!

4. Tarte The Buffer Airbrush Finish Bamboo Foundation Brush

Best Makeup Brushes

This brush has been with me for a while as well. I think I got this when I was working at Ulta back in 2013 (Yeah, I know how did I survive there without buying the whole store?!). If I’m not using my beauty blender, then I am using this one. It definitely has a airbrush finish to it and looks flawless. I do wish it was a little smaller, so it would make applying easier, but it’s not a huge deal.

5. Nars Kabuki Ita Brush

Best Makeup Brushes

I’m sure you’ve heard of this brush, since every beauty guru praises it! It’s the perfect brush for contouring. I do know it is more on the expensive side so don’t feel the need to splurge. I’m sure you could save up for it or buy a dupe. If you do want to treat yo self, then YES, this is your dream brush! It’s an easy application and gives you a great line. Not great for nose contouring, but that’s another story for another brush, so that’s alright!

6. Mac 130 Short Duo Fibre Brush

Best Makeup Brushes

Okay, maybe this brush should’ve been up at number 1 because I’m pretty sure I can’t go anywhere without this brush. I use it for under my eyes with my tarte shape tape under eye concealer. It works great with liquid products and blends so nicely. It’s not big enough for foundation, but definitely amazing for smaller areas.

7. Real Techniques Powder Brush

Best Makeup Brushes

This one is my go to brush for bronzer application. It’s so fluffy and a great product for its price of only $8! It works great as a setting brush as well. Real Techniques is really a great dupe for many brushes, so if you’re not looking to splurge, I would highly suggest this brand.

8. Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

Real Technique Makeup Brush

I LOVE THIS ONE. This one is great for foundation application or under eye concealer. It’s a small head, which is great for a detailed use. It’s also very soft. I’ve been really into small brushes for applying my foundation and this is easily my favorite at the moment.

9. Real Techniques Retractable Kabuki Brush

Real Technique Makeup Brush

This is a great powder foundation brush or for blush or whatever you may need it for! It’s great fro traveling. It has a little cap for it. It’s also super soft. I love using it for my blush application.

10. Sephora Pro Airbrush Crease 31

Best Makeup Brush

Sephora has pretty decent options for makeup brushes as well. This one works well applying crease shadows, but more so on the top section instead of the side small area — if that makes sense. It’s a bigger brush, so it will give you a more coverage.

Alright guys, that is all! Hope you learned something cool today and have a wonderful Friday! Have a safe and fun weekend and don’t forget to come back tomorrow for a recipe post!

xx, Ozzy
